The Song of Silence
The town of Colliwomple was the perfect little town at the crossroads, full of friendly people, warm inviting places to stay, and lots of bustle. Until, of course, it wasn’t. It is hard to say exactly when the change started, why guests became strangers and strangers, enemies, but it was not too long before the good people of Colliwomple had erected a large wall to keep others out and their citizens in.
A town once set to the tune of adventure and merriment suddenly went silent, hidden away, and for a hundred years, it stayed that way. The thing is, no one left remembers why, only that it's for their own good. What lies beyond the wall is dangerous, but when a group of kids dares to question, to wonder, to dream of what is possible if they break free, they might find that the adults aren't always right!

The Winter Sort of Thing program (WSOT) is a 5 month program for experienced YACA students to participate in the staging of a full-length musical. Students are educated further in all aspects of the theater arts while attending rehearsals with professional artists for the production. The cast works intensively to learn blocking, choreography, lines, and songs, to build sets, paint props, and sew costumes. Through that process, they grapple with themes in a magical story that are relevant to the challenges they face in their day to day lives. In this program, they are able to achieve a goal that at some point in the process seems impossible. This hard work culminates in the performing of an original student-conceived, staff written/composed musical in front of an audience.
