Yes! And...

Yes! And...'s SHADOW Company presents: "Flash!"

Flash! - A new theatre piece that premiered at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, Sept 3-18, 2010

SHADOW Company presents: "Flash!"In September 2010, SHADOW Company performed an original performance art theatre piece entitled, Flash! It was our first time working with the Philadelphia Live Arts - Fringe Festival and the show was received well. In a nutshell Flash! explored the dynamic of teens, specifically urban teens in Philadelphia, through the anticipation of an upcoming flash mob.

Because the piece was performed outdoors and in public, there were many audience members who simply stopped by and enjoyed the free show. Were you one of these people? A postcard came in the mail shortly after our second weekend. This individual had stopped to watch the performance and responded like this: "Thanks! I stumbled onto Saturday's performance on South St. That's the kind of thing Philadelphia needs more of. Street performances, especially those as good as Flash! keep me hopeful for what could be... Peace & best to all involved!"

The show:

SHADOW Company presents: "Flash!"Flash! The city streets light up with teens armed with cell phones, ready to surrender to the power of the flash mob. Get ready for a performance and an experience you will not soon forget as SHADOW Company, Yes! And...'s high school performing arts company, uses spoken word, dance, music and more to tell the story of Philadelphia's teen culture. What happens when a spontaneous celebration suddenly turns violent? What are the underlying feelings that lead to such outbursts? See high school artists' reactions as they take a provocative look at recent events.

Written by the youth in SHADOW Company and edited, directed, and choreographed by Yes! And... staff, "Flash!" takes a hard look at the recent flash mob incidents as well as the way their generation is being portrayed in the media as a result of these incidents. SHADOW Company stands in opposition to these stereotypes and takes back the "flash mob" concept as a creative, positive theatrical device. Flash!
