Accounting / Bookkeeping Intern


Working under the direction of the Executive Director and/or the Development Committee Director, this person is responsible for maintaining budgets, contributing to the past year’s financial report, and reviewing current program budgets in light of total organizational budgets. This intern will have the opportunity to do basic bookkeeping, learn our Quickbooks system, and run reports with measurable benchmarks against program expenditures.

What you will learn & do:

  • Have regular meetings with the Executive Director and the volunteer accountant
  • How to maintain donor database and financial journal entries
  • Preparing bank deposits
  • Program expense and budget reports

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • A background working with and meeting deadlines, strong collaboration with others
  • A good work ethic and ability to show independent processes
  • Superior communication skills working within an organization with multiple program directors
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Open and eager to learn new things through training and experiences

Experience in the following is helpful but not mandatory:

A background or familiarity in working with Microsoft Office (especially Excel), Quickbooks, and/or balance sheets

Administrative Assistant Intern


Working under the supervision of the Executive Director, the administrative Intern performs general secretarial and administrative duties, routine clerical and typing work.

What you will learn:

  • How to maintain systems, procedures and methods for record keeping, sending receipts, thank you letters and other merchandise or event items.
  • How to maintain contact management and database, including inputting giving tracking.
  • To interact with vendors, parents, other agencies and public to answer questions, recruit volunteers, register children, schedule speaking engagements and professional development opportunities, solicit donations (in-kind) and to resolve account and billing discrepancies.
  • Methods of editing some print material
  • Strategies for working in a fast-paced, ejnjoyable working environment

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of personal computers.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of data gathering techniques, such as library research or files analysis, to obtain technical and administrative materials for organizational use.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, planning, records management, research and general administration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff, employees and public.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Experience in the following is helpful but not mandatory:

Experience with a database program.
